Johor polls: PN supreme council to meet Saturday to pick MB candidate

PAGOH: The Perikatan Nasional supreme council will meet Saturday (March 5) to detemine its mentri besar candidate if the coalition wins the Johor state election, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.

The Perikatan secretary-general said several candidates have been identified so far.

“We will be meeting tomorrow and after that, we will finalise the best candidate for Johor mentri besar,” said Hamzah, who is also Home Minister, after a walkabout here Friday (March 4).

However he did not say when and where the meeting would take place.

The Larut MP said there are certain criteria to select a mentri besar, among them, the capability to administer the state government and has the experience as well as the emphasis on integrity.

Asked whether the candidate would be from Bersatu, he said that would be decided by the supreme council.

Commenting on the progress of Perikatan’s campaign, which entered its seventh day, the Johor Perikatan election director said everything was proceeding smoothly and he hoped all parties would continue to comply with the stipulated standard operating procedure (SOP).

Perikatan which comprises Bersatu, PAS and Gerakan, is contesting all 56 seats in the Johor state legislative assembly.

The Election Commission has fixed polling day on March 12 and early voting on March 8. – Bernama
