Food programme contracts for B40 children in schools to be monitored, says Nurul Izzah

PETALING JAYA: Companies will not profit from the supplementary food programme (RMT) meant for schoolchildren from the B40 income group, says Nurul Izzah Anwar.

The Finance Ministry advisory panel secretariat co-chair said in a Facebook post that children from this group are not getting healthy food from the RMT programmes in their schools.

She said that there are schools that use condensed milk as a substitute for dairy milk while noodles are given in small portions for these children.

“The RMT programme needs monitoring to ensure that the implementers provide children with nutritious meals,” she said.

She added that they would also ensure that the RMT contracts would no longer be simply awarded to anyone in order to ensure those selected can provide proper meals to schoolchildren.

“No one will profit from meals for B40 pupils,” she said, adding that according to the National Health and Morbidity Survey, 21.8% of children have stunted growth in Malaysia due to unbalanced food intake.

“Food is a basic need for everyone, whether poor or rich, and all families deserve equal access to food,” she said.
