Covid-19: Ivermectin didn’t reduce hospitalisations, says Health DG

PETALING JAYA: The anti-parasitic drug Ivermectin did not reduce Covid-19 hospitalisations in the largest trial to date, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In a tweet on Friday (March 18), Dr Noor Hisham posted a video by the Institute for Clinical Research (ICR), which reiterated that it should only be used in clinical trials.

“Patients who got the anti-parasitic drug didn’t fare better than those who received a placebo,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

The video stated that many international, well-designed trials have proven that Ivermectin is not effective in the treatment of Covid-19.

ICR said that it should only be used in clinical trials, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other internationally reputable bodies.

It also reminded citizens to not use Ivermectin products made for animals, stating that animal doses are not safe for humans.
