AirAsia routes international domestic flights Malaysia border reopening

In conjunction with the upcoming Malaysian border reopening on 1 April, AirAsia has revealed that it will be adding more routes to its airline service. With this, it said that domestic and international flights are expected to see a further increase in capacity moving forward.

“With the continued easing of travel restrictions, the airline group has increased its domestic flight capacity by 156% since October 2021 that kickstarted with the Langkawi travel bubble, and by 50% for international flights since the Malaysian government’s announcement of borders reopening in April on 8 March 2022, with a total of 75 aircraft in operation currently group-wide,” AirAsia said in a statement. “This was also supported by the reopening of other countries like Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore and Vietnam.”

AirAsia Aviation Group CEO Bo Lingam noted that the airline had recently launched new domestic routes this year, which includes flights from Kuching to Langkawi, Penang to Sibu, Johor Bahru to Bintulu, and Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Terengganu. Additionally, he also revealed that flights to neighbouring South East Asian countries will now include popular destinations such as Bali, Manila, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Phuket, and more.

Further celebrating the reopening of Malaysia’s border, the low-cost carrier said it will be offering flights to popular destinations including Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, Thailand, Indonesia, the Maldives, Brunei, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Laos, Bangladesh and more from as low as just RM89 one-way. Domestic routes, on the other hand, are also on promotion from just RM39 one-way from now until 27 March for travel between 1 April until 25 March 2023, which users can book via the ‘Flights’ option in the AirAsia super app.
